As a wedding music guru for many years, I have encountered many occasions where couples could not find their favorite pieces of music for their weddings anywhere, from local music stores to online stores. I was able to find solutions to their problem in two ways – by replicating their music by ear, or by composing a special piece of music just for them.
Being a trained musician for over 2 decades, I am very efficient in transcribing music, if there is the need. I have played at many weddings where I had to play all of the selections without sheet music. I was able to listen to mp3 or YouTube clips of the songs and play them by ear, on the instruments that the couples preferred. The couples were more than thrilled for me to replicate their favorite songs on the piano, harp and pipe organ at their special weddings. Playing their choices of music during the ceremony added more intimacy, as these songs had special meaning for the couples. I feel sure that they will remember those moments, and the music, for the rest of their lives. That is the kind of lasting effect that I want to provide for my clients, not just an immediate need for filling in the void with the music during the ceremonies.
I call myself a closet composer. What that means is that I love to compose for a hobby and not many people know about it. I have performed one of my own compositions at several concerts as an encore piece. When I compose, there is no boundary to what kind and style of music I write. What I can do for many weddings is that I can compose a fresh piece just for the two of you and your guests to enjoy. It is almost like having your wedding as a premiere that no one will forget. A year ago, a couple that I was working with could not, for the longest time, choose their music. In the end, the bride said to me that she wanted me to choose a song for her, for when she walked down the aisle. So instead, I wrote something fresh for her, that went with everything else that we had chosen. She was excited that I could deliver a special composition just for her and her dilemma was solved!
